A guide to coffee, wine & memorable days in portland & beyond

sips from the northern oregon coast: coffee, wine & coastal views

caffeine, chianti & coastlines☕🍷🌊

I just spent a few days on the Oregon Coast with a friend, and it was exactly what I needed! Getting out of the city for some beach time felt like the perfect reset, and we seriously lucked out with the weather, which meant plenty of sightseeing, hiking, and exploring.

Naturally, I made it a point to check out a few local coffee and wine spots along the way. (Morning coffee is non-negotiable for me, and on vacation, wine in the evening just makes sense.) The coast is full of gems, the places that lean into that slower, slightly rustic, beach-town energy that feels effortlessly charming.

We spent our trip exploring the Northern coastline of Oregon. From Manzanita to Cannon Beach to Astoria, here are a few of my favorite finds from the trip.

insomnia coffee co – cannon beach

Insomnia Coffee Co was our first stop after arriving in Cannon Beach. It was one of those classic coastal afternoons, gray and a little windy, and I was fully in the mood for a warm latte. The shop itself is super cute and feels like a true community hub. Every seat was taken when we walked in around 1pm, which always feels like a good sign. They serve Dapper & Wire coffee roasters, and my oat milk latte was exactly what I needed to ease into the trip: smooth, comforting, and well-balanced.

That evening, after settling in, we headed into Manzanita to unwind with a glass of wine, and we ended up at The Winery at Manzanita. It’s a small, laid-back wine bar right on the main strip, with their production space located in the same building. The wines are approachable, easy-drinking, and perfect for a relaxed beach evening. Nothing overly serious, just genuinely enjoyable.

They have a patio that looked like it would be ideal in good weather… unfortunately, we caught it during a random hailstorm (coastal spring keeps you humble), but even inside, it was a cozy, easygoing experience.

astoria coffee co

We spent one of our days in Astoria, which is easily one of my favorite towns! Astoria has this old maritime, slightly rugged charm that makes it feel distinct from anywhere else on the coast, and the local spots really reflect that.

Our first stop was Astoria Coffee Roasters, a quaint coffee shop and roastery. It leans more toward grab-and-go, with limited seating, but makes up for it with character with vintage decor, small retail items, and details that feel very “Astoria.” My latte was excellent. The oat milk was perfectly textured, and the coffee itself was smooth. I also had a great conversation with the owner, Pete, about his background and their coffees, which made the stop feel even more personal. Definitely a gem!

winekraft wine bar – astoria

To wrap up our day in Astoria, we (of course) found our way to wine–this time at WineKraft Wine Bar. The outdoor sign said “live music,” and that was all I needed to be convinced. It’s a charming, low-key spot that feels made for lingering. It wasn’t too crowded when we arrived, which made it easy to settle in and actually enjoy the space.

We sat at the bar, chatted with the bartender, Teresa, and caught some live music. The whole experience was relaxed and unpretentious, exactly how I want a night on the coast to feel.

elk creek coffee – cannon beach

Before heading back to Portland, we made one last stop at Elk Creek Coffee. It was packed, with a line out the door, but the drinks came out quickly and were absolutely worth it. They serve Caravan Coffee Roasters, and everything we had was spot-on.

The space is bright and modern but still feels coastal, and the small back patio was perfect for sitting in the sun with a coffee (honestly my ideal slow morning). The baristas were incredibly kind, and we grabbed a blueberry muffin fresh out of the oven that might be one of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this spot for your morning coffee in Cannon Beach!

Each of these spots captures something special about the coast. Slower mornings, relaxed evenings, and places that feel genuinely connected to their community. There’s an ease to it all that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile.

I already can’t wait to go back, especially with summer around the corner and plenty more beach days ahead.
