portland neighborhood coffee shops series ☕
Okayyy, so it took me a bit longer than I expected to get through the next neighborhood, but I’m finally back with 8 coffee shops from Portland’s Mississippi district!
Mississippi is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Portland. It always feels lively and is home to some of my favorite spots I’ve discovered so far, including restaurants like Eem and Lovely’s Fifty-Fifty, live music venues like Mississippi Studios and Atlantis Lounge, bars like the Box Social (R.I.P. The Uncanny–you will be very missed), and now several incredible coffee shops.
When I tell you these are some of my favorite new finds in Portland, I am not lying! There are so many amazing roasters and local coffee spots in this part of town (I included Albina, Mississippi, and Boise all in one). I’ve had so much fun visiting these places and meeting so many amazing baristas (you guys in Mississippi are the friendliest baristas ever). As always, all photos are my own! 🙂
I’m not going to waste anymore time…let’s get into this post!
Portland Cà Phê

Portland Cà Phê is an absolute staple in the city’s coffee scene and the only 100% Vietnamese specialty coffee roaster in Portland. Founded in 2020, their mission is to bring Vietnamese coffee into a specialty coffee scene that has historically lacked representation from Southeast Asia.
They feature both robusta and arabica beans, which is especially interesting because most specialty roasters primarily focus on arabica. In addition to their coffee shop on MLK Boulevard, they also operate a brunch spot on Alberta–Mémoire Cà Phê–that I had the chance to visit as well, and the food is crazy good.
The coffee is phenomenal, and the interior of the café is gorgeous, featuring a visual display that highlights their sourcing relationships. I really admire what they’re doing here and highly recommend checking them out.
capitola coffee roasters

Capitola is a small specialty roaster, and their cafe on Mississippi is absolutely stunning. The space features a beautiful, spacious interior and even a secluded outdoor patio that is lovely to relax in.
Their coffee is delicious, and my latte was spot-on. My mom ordered their seasonal orange blossom latte which I also got to try, and it was super good (I guess orange blossom season is a thing for Portland coffee shops, because I’ve been seeing that as a syrup option at so many other places, too!).
I will say, though, that everyone—and I mean everyone—in the café when I visited was working. The only conversations I heard were people ordering coffee. Keep that in mind if you’re looking for a social atmosphere, but if you need a place to focus and get work done, this is a fantastic option..
coffeehouse five

Coffeehouse Five is located on Killingsworth Street and feels like a true neighborhood cafe. It’s the kind of place where you can roll up, read a magazine, and hang out for a while.
The interior is rustic yet spacious, making it a great spot for both getting work done and catching up with a friend. When I chatted with the baristas, they mentioned that they see many of the same faces every week and know what to expect when they walk through the door. That sense of community and consistency really makes it feel like a neighborhood staple.
They roast their own coffee, and my latte was amazing. Shoutout to the baristas for giving me recommendations for other places to check out around Portland. 🙂
albina press

Albina Press has two locations in Portland, with the second located in Hawthorne.
This is another space that feels older and well-loved—in the best way possible. It’s extremely cozy, with plenty of seating and outdoor picnic tables. They serve Coava Coffee, and my latte was, once again, delicious (seriously, I love the Portland coffee scene).
I also grabbed a marionberry muffin that was way too good. I have a feeling this may become a regular spot for me.
bastion coffee roasters

Bastion is one of my favorite coffee discoveries in Portland so far! It’s a small space located just down the road from Albina Press, and it’s beautifully decorated with tons of color and character. If I had to compare this coffee shop to a music genre, it would be indie pop. The space feels bright, creative, and full of personality. I’m also completely obsessed with their branding.
When I visited, they were serving La Esperanza Estate, a washed-process coffee from Guatemala, on espresso, and it was incredible. The baristas were also incredibly friendly, which only added to the experience. You seriously need to check this place out.
cafe rosetta

Café Rosetta is an Italian-inspired coffee shop serving espresso drinks made with Heart Coffee Roasters coffee alongside focaccia breakfast paninis.
It’s a beautiful space, and I tried one of their breakfast sandwiches during my visit, and it was killer. This is a great café for just about everything, whether you’re catching up with friends or getting some work done, but I highly recommend showing up hungry so you can try the food!
hypnos coffee

Hypnos is located off Williams Avenue and serves coffee from Coava Roasters. It’s a beautiful modern space that almost gave me “wedding venue” vibes in the best way, if that makes sense. The design is thoughtfully curated and minimalist, with bright whites accented by soft yellow and green tones.
Most people seemed to be either working or grabbing coffee to go, making it another solid option if you’re looking for a productive café environment.
the fresh pot

The Fresh Pot also has two locations, with the second located in Hawthorne. The vibe of this place is honestly unmatched. Their logo is a shark drinking coffee, which should tell you everything you need to know.
The Mississippi location feels almost like a dive bar—but make it a coffee shop. There are old-fashioned stools at the bar, window seating perfect for people-watching, and a cozy atmosphere that immediately feels familiar.
They played old-school surf rock the entire time I was there, which I absolutely loved. I’m genuinely so happy I found this spot because it feels lived-in, welcoming, and somehow like a home base all at once.
All of these spots have their own unique flair, which is one of the things about Mississippi, and Portland’s coffee scene as a whole, so special. Whether you’re a Portland local or visiting from out of town, I highly recommend giving these coffee shops a try.
What spots should I try next? ☕
Thanks for reading 🙂
